Overhead HT Line

11 kV and 22 kV overhead feeders — new lines, extensions, diversions and re-conductoring, taken from survey through to charging.

The reason sectionalising points exist. With a G.O.D at each section, an outage for work on one spur stops at the next switch instead of taking the whole feeder — and the transformer tap-off keeps its lightning arrestor and its own earth.

The Work

HT overhead is what brings utility supply to a plant boundary or carries it between substations across a site. The line itself is simple; the discipline is in the detail — correct pole class for the span and angle, disc insulator strings sized for the voltage, dead-end and section points where they belong, and clearances that hold at maximum sag on the hottest day of the year.

Work is planned around the shutdown, not the other way round. Where a live feeder is involved we sequence the outage with the utility or the plant electrical head, work to a permit, and give back the line tested and charged inside the window rather than asking for a second one.

Why It Matters

Where This Work
Decides The Outcome

One HT line feeds everything downstream

An LT fault takes out a shed. An HT feeder fault takes out the transformer, the panel and the plant behind it. The cost of a weak jumper or a cracked insulator on an HT run is measured in production hours, not in material.

The utility inspects before it charges

Pole schedule, clearances, earthing and hardware are checked before a new feeder is energised. Work built to the drawing the first time is the difference between charging this month and re-doing sections next month.

Live-adjacent work needs trained crew

Most HT extension work happens beside conductors that stay energised. Earthing before work, tested tools, and staff trained for work at height are not optional on that kind of site.

Alignment walked, pole schedule and material list drawn against span, angle and crossing conditions.

Outage planning

Shutdown window agreed with the utility or plant, permit raised, isolation and earthing points fixed.

Erection & stringing

Foundations, poles, cross-arms and insulator strings, then conductor pulled and sagged to chart.

04

Test & charge

Insulation resistance, earth resistance and continuity recorded, line charged and handed over with the test sheet.
