An HT connection is not a longer version of an LT one. It is a different file, with a different set of drawings, a technical feasibility study at the DISCOM, an agreement to execute, a substation to build at your end, and a statutory safety approval before anyone is allowed to energise it. Most of the elapsed time is spent waiting in offices, not working on site.

Gujarat raised the low-tension ceiling from 100 kW to 150 kW in the 2024 amendment to the Electricity Supply Code, so some loads that would once have been forced onto HT can now stay LT. Above that ceiling, HT is not a choice.

We run the whole thing: work out the load and the route, prepare and submit the application with the drawings the DISCOM actually asks for, follow the feasibility and the estimate, execute the agreement, build the line and the substation, and take the installation through the Electrical Inspector so it can be charged.

Three lanes, one file. It only moves right when the lane holding it is satisfied — and the two gates marked here, feasibility at the DISCOM and safety at the Inspector, are where an HT application actually loses weeks.

    Load working & route

    Connected load and demand worked out honestly, tapping point and route identified, and the decision made on whether the supply comes overhead or underground.

  2. Us → DISCOM

    Application filed

    Application submitted with ownership proof, layout, single line diagram, load schedule and company papers. Registration number tracked from the day it is filed.

  3. DISCOM

    Technical feasibility

    The DISCOM checks whether the network can carry the load from the proposed tapping point, and what has to be built for it. This is the stage that decides the estimate.

  4. DISCOM → You

    Estimate & demand note

    Charges, security deposit and any dedicated infrastructure cost are issued. We check the estimate against the sanctioned scope before you pay it.

  5. You & DISCOM

    Agreement executed

    Payment made and the supply agreement signed. The sanctioned load on that agreement is what governs your tariff and your penalties from then on.

  6. Us

    Line & substation built

    HT line or cable, transformer, protection, panels and earthing erected, terminated and tested. Test reports recorded as we go, not reconstructed afterwards.

  7. Inspector

    Statutory approval

    The installation is submitted to the Electrical Inspector under the CEA safety regulations. Nothing above the notified voltage may be energised until this approval is in hand.

  8. DISCOM

    Metering & charging

    HT metering installed and sealed, the supply charged, and the whole set of drawings, test reports and the approval handed over to you.

What The File Has To Contain

Missing or inconsistent papers are the single commonest reason an application sits. We assemble the set before it is submitted.

Where It Stalls

Why Files Come Back

The load on the application does not match the load on the drawing

Scrutiny compares the two. If the schedule says one figure and the single line diagram implies another, the file is returned — and the clock starts again at submission, not where it stopped.

Ownership papers in a different name to the applicant

A lease in the parent company’s name and an application in the operating company’s is enough to hold a file. It is worth reconciling before submission rather than after.

Estimate paid before the scope was checked

A demand note can include infrastructure you did not expect to fund. Once it is paid the conversation is much harder, so the time to question it is while it is still an estimate.

Site work finished before the Inspector was engaged

If the installation is built and only then submitted, every observation becomes rework on completed work. Bringing the Inspector’s requirements into the design is what keeps it to one visit.

Earthing done to a drawing instead of to a reading

The Inspector wants measured earth resistance, not a pit count. Pits dug without measuring are the most common single observation, and they have to be reopened.
